ViendoMovies, the 24-hour channel of original cinema produced in Spanish, without commercial breaks and produced by SOMOSTV (a company part of SOMOS Group and chaired by Luis Villanueva), celebrates with special programming two particularly important dates for the Latino community in the United States and Puerto Rico: Halloween to be celebrated on Tuesday, October 31 (All Saints’ Eve, also known as Halloween) and the Day of the Dead (November 1), a festivity celebrated by the Mexican community. On these dates it is customary to celebrate with humorous-macabre themes and this special programming is in line with the mission of the ViendoMovies channel to be culturally relevant and in tune with the Latino community.
For Halloween day ViendoMovies presents all day horror and suspense movies such as Fin (2012), Desaparecer (2016), La Hermandad (2013), Cygnus (2017), Verónica (2017), La Cara del Diablo (2014), Las Brujas de Zugarramurdi (2013) and for prime time El Pacto (2018) at 9 pm, Cementerio General (2013) at 11 pm) and Los Inocentes (2020) at 1am. All these productions are in the tone of the horror/suspense theme, representing the best of modern cinema originally produced in Spanish and with a recognized cast of stars from the industry. Halloween is a beloved holiday in the United States, a night where it is customary to wear costumes and celebrate parties for young and old.
In celebration of the Day of the Dead ViendoMovies programs in its prime time Para Toda la Muerte (2020) at 9 pm, Mole de Olla (2019) at 11 pm, El Inconveniente (2020) at 1 am. During the day the channel programs Carmina y Amen (2014), Nuestras madres (2014) , Ola de Crímenes (2018), La Medium del Venerable (2019), Un mundo Normal (2020) and One Way (2022). On this date very celebrated by the Mexican community, respect is paid and friends and family who have died are remembered in a sometimes humorous tone. The tradition includes honoring the deceased with skulls (calacas), flowers and food offerings, visiting the graves with gifts for the deceased.
Many of the films scheduled on these important dates are recognized in international events and film festivals of the genre, following the strategy of ViendoMovies to license recognized and representative content of an industry that has attracted the attention of critics and audiences around the world.
