SOMOS Films, the Spanish‑language feature film production company (run by Ivanna Villanueva and part of SOMOS Group, led by Luis Villanueva) and Divarte Cine have completed production of the film Encrucijadas, a dramatic production filmed in Caracas, Venezuela. Directed by José Antonio Varela and starring Rubén León, Varinia Arraíz, Adolfo Nittoli, Karen Rosales, Moisés Berr, Alejandra Sandoval, and Jackson Gutierrez, among others, the film portrays life in the neighborhoods of Caracas—typical of many Latin American urban communities—with their mix of violence, passion, and turbulent lives. Encrucijadas received valuable support from the Venezuelan National Autonomous Center of Cinematography. With this film, SOMOS Films expands its catalog to 17 productions, all in genres widely embraced by Spanish‑speaking audiences, several of them co‑produced with Divarte Cine.

In Encrucijadas, Nazaret (47) returns to his neighborhood after serving a sentence for drug trafficking, with the sole desire of leaving his past behind and winning back Carmen (35), his former love. However, he is met with a harsh reality: Carmen has rebuilt her life as a nurse and is now married, his own mother refuses to forgive him, and his brother Víctor hides dark secrets. Meanwhile, the situation becomes more complicated with the arrival of Ricardo (23), a young doctor trapped in precarious circumstances who becomes involved with Karina (18), Carmen’s niece—triggering jealousy and violent machismo. When an attack shatters the community’s fragile balance, betrayal, corruption, and violence come to light. In this maze of irreversible decisions, Nazaret is forced to confront his criminal past in a final attempt to save his future, proving that at life’s crossroads, every choice comes with a price.

The film, with general production by Vladimir Sosa Sarabia and executive production by Luis Villanueva, Ivanna Villanueva, Thaelman Urgelles, Priscila Guía, Alejandro Medina, and José Antonio Varela, will premiere at film festivals before reaching the big screen. Since 2018, SOMOS Films has produced 16 feature films in various countries—including Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru—supporting local film industries and Latin American talent. The company has explored a wide range of themes, from comedy to historical drama, melodrama, thrillers, and fiction, demonstrating its flexibility in handling diverse subjects.

Luis Villanueva expressed his satisfaction: “With Encrucijadas we expect a very positive reception from audiences across all platforms. The film has a very contemporary storyline, with an atmosphere that feels familiar to Latin Americans and a cast of exceptional dramatic and artistic quality. At SOMOS Films we have had a productive and fruitful relationship with José Antonio Varela, with whom we have consistently produced high‑quality work, and Encrucijadas now becomes part of our catalog and the slate of films we offer to content distributors. We expect excellent results from this new co‑production.”

José Antonio Varela added: “I am very happy to be about to premiere my seventh feature film, and already the fourth made with the support and collaboration of a production company like SOMOS Films. With this film I return to the path of my first movie, La Clase. It is a personal film where I express some of my concerns about the society in which I live.”
